Cairns To Darwin 10 Day Top End Adventure
"Ride Australia's Last True Frontier"
We are extremely excited to announce we are heading back up North again in 2021 to explore the spectacular landscape through the top end of Australia. This ride is on top of most Adventure Riders bucket lists and in our opinion is the pinnacle of all adventure riding.
So come along with us and explore through the Top End of Australia on motorcycles where we traverse through some of the most remote and rugged riding Australia has to offer along The Gulf of Carpentaria, National Parks, million acre properties, private cattle stations, world famous Kakadu N.P, lost city rock formations, thermal springs, waterfalls, gorges, camping each night under a chandelier of stars, visiting iconic Australian pubs and learning Australia history along the way all while taking in majestic views of the glorious and harsh Australian Outback.
At Ellwood Motorcycle Adventures we are all about true adventure riding so our rides run a little different to most traditional group tours, we run unsupported to give you the full Adventure Riding experience.
We cap our rides at no greater than 20 riders to give you a personal experience and so you can get as much out of the tour as possible.
What we mean by "Unsupported Tours"
Unsupported riding tours are a very unique experience as you are required to carry everything necessary for the trip on your bike. e.g. Camping equipment, fuel, food, water, etc.
Crucial careful planning is required and when unsupported tours are organised properly, they can be some of the most exciting and adventurous times you can have on a motorcycle.
We do have a support vehicle which we can contact via a satellite phone if needed in case of a bike break down or emergency and we do meet up with the support vehicle a couple of times throughout the tour for bush camp oven cook ups and bike maintenance stops.
The advantages of a tour like this is you can cover bigger distances and visit more amazing places, as you don’t have to wait for support vehicles to catch up to the tour every day and it gives you a real sense of achievement and freedom once you’ve experienced an unsupported adventure ride. This is in our opinion the pinnacle of adventure riding and we are very passionate and eager to share our knowledge and experience having spent years travelling around Australia riding unsupported on adventure bikes.
If you have your own adventure bike and set up but are too time poor or maybe even unsure on how to plan an unsupported adventure riding trip we can take all the hassle out of it and do all the hard work for you meaning you can just turn up to the destination with your bike and head into the ride and enjoy the tour knowing everything is taken care of. These tours are a fantastic way to ride with other like minded people and make life long friends to adventure with.
We cater for people who already own their dream adventure bike or want to buy and set up their own adventure bike, but are not yet ready to tackle their own big trip because they lack the knowledge and skills involved to feel safe and confident. Pre tour, we would offer you support and advice on all aspects of bike set up, pre trip maintenance, recommendations on camping gear and safety equipment and get you completely adventure ready.
This is for the one of adventurer that doesn't want to invest in their own machine and gear, we make it super easy for you to hit the 'Book Now' button and let us take care of the rest.
We have completely set up extremely well maintained Suzuki DRZ400s that are fully equipped with everything you will need the entire trip including all camping gear, luggage bags and large fuel tank so all you literally need to do is get yourself to the start destination, jump on and ride!
This tour is best suited to an intermediate level riding skill, however, we can cater for most skill levels and on occasions send different level riders in the group on break out routes to make it fun for everyone.
We welcome all makes and models of bikes that are suited to this type of riding as long as they have a current Australian registration and a fuel range of 500km fuel range - this can be achieved by carrying a fuel bladder when needed.
We have had bikes on this tour from KTM350EXC to KTM1190's, we can help you get your bike adventure ready with recommendations such as tyre choice, fuel range options, luggage bags, safety equipment, camping gear and water storage.
We have a small fleet of hire 2020 DRZ400's available equipped with long range tanks, luggage bags and camping equipment so all you need to bring is a hydration pack and some clothes and your personal items.
All you require is a current learners motorcycle licence or full motorcycle licence.
**Dates may be subject to change due to COVID-19 border restrictions. A full refund will be made if border restrictions are in place at the time of tour.

We have put together an amazing 10 days of riding across one of the continents last ‘true frontiers’, the amazing Top End of Australia. We start our adventure out of the Ellwood HQ's in Cairns and head straight out through the untouched Rainforests of the Far North Queensland and onto the rugged cattle country of the southern end of the Cape York Peninsula.
We have some amazing and interesting stops every day to check out all sorts of hidden gems like historical sites of the early explorers, amazing waterfalls and ‘lost city’ rock formations, and an iconic Australian outback pub or two.
As we make our way west along the dusty outback tracks of the Gulf of Carpentaria it would be a sin to not make a detour into the remote North-West highlands to what is known as one of the most beautiful National parks in Australia, Boodjamulla (Lawn Hill) National Park to explore the rugged escarpments, sand stone ranges and heritage fossils.
The afternoon can be spent relaxing in the water, canoeing the exquisite gorges or exploring the multiple walking trails which lead you through the sandstone cliffs lining the gorge.
Once hitting the Northern Territory border, we experience the interesting and varied scenery and track conditions of the Limmen N.P and tackle literally dozens of waterways and river crossings which makes for exciting riding.
We explore a million acre outback property, private cattle stations and even try our luck and catching a barra or two and spot a few crocs in the local rivers.
After days in the saddle it’s a welcome relief to stop in and have a soak at the natural thermal springs at Materanka before entering into the world famous Kakadu N.P and discover the natural beauty of the ancient land and what better way to do that than on your motorcycle before finishing our adventure with an ice cold beer on the beautiful coastline of Darwin City with a farewell dinner and night out on the town with our newly formed life long friends.
