10 years cape York trail bike experience

how our tours run

As we make our way from Cairns to the tip of Australia we will cover roughly 1500kms of the most amazing trails and tracks that the Cape York region has to offer. Watch as the country changes dramatically from day to day as we explore areas such as the pre historic rainforests of the Daintree to the wide open plains of Lakefield N.P. We will discover the history of Far North QLD as we visit places such as Cooktown, The iconic Lions Den Hotel and the Old Morton Telegraph Station.

The riding is ever changing and fun every day and wouldn’t be a trip to Cape York without tackling the tracks that have made the place a ‘bucket list’ trip such as the Old Telegraph Track, CREB Track, Frenchman’s Track and Starke Track. With exclusive access to private stations and aboriginal land throughout the tour this makes for a unique adventure as we get you off the normal tourist routes and experience some of the places of Cape York that are rarely visited.

Our fleet of trail bikes are all current Model Suzuki DRZ400’s equipped with everything required for a trip to Cape York. From the second you are picked up from your accommodation until your return you can relax knowing everything is taken care of by the staff and crew at Ellwood Motorcycle Adventures. The guides on tour are qualified First Aiders and carry a Satellite Phone and EPIRB in case of an emergency situation or bike breakdown.

What we supply:

-Tent and air bed for camping and every night we stay at camp sites with hot showers and toilet facilities.

-Our support truck meets us every night with your gear and cold beers on ice $4 a beer

-All breakfasts, trail snacks and dinners.

What you need to bring:

-Your motorcycle licence (motorcycle learners is ok)

-Riding gear (we can provide hire gear)

-Sleeping bag and pillow

-Personal items

-Hydration backpack

Minimum skill requirements:

-Motorcycle licence (learners are ok)

-You need to be comfortable riding on bitumen highways at speeds of 80-100kms/hr and main dirt roads e.g. Peninsular development road at minimum 70-80kms/hr.

-If you are a beginner we recommend some coaching/training or get as much off road riding experience as possible prior to your tour date to ensure your safety and confidence on the bike. You will enjoy your experience so much more and get to see more of Cape York.

There is some down time once we get to the tip to relax and explore around loyalty beach with opportunities to try hook a tuna or spot a local croc.

We have stringent health, safety and environmental plans in place throughout the whole tour and safety to our customers, work crew and the environment we encounter/ride through is our top priority.

Our guides are experienced in assessing rider ability and choose trails that will best suit the riders on tour. There are always options each day for ‘A’ and ‘B’ tracks so everyone can enjoy themselves. We also have a support vehicle which the tour group meets at the end of each days ride that carries all the supplies, camping equipment and personal items for everyone on tour.
